History :
28 yr old man with wrist pain following a fall on outstretched hand

Answers

What does the radiograph show ?

Lunate dislocation – the lunate is displaced anteriorly and appears ‘empty’

Why is this injury not a perilunate dislocation ?

The capitate and radius remain in a straight line. In perilunate dislocation, the capitate is displaced posteriorly and is no longer in a straight line with the radius.
