55 year old woman with abdominal pain.

Answers

What does the abdominal radiograph show?

Small bowel dilatation / distension.

What features seen on this radiograph help interpretation ?

Folds cross the whole lumen.
Central position of bowel (dilated large bowel tends to be peripheral).

What are the possible diagnoses ?

Small bowel obstruction (many causes including adhesions, internal or external hernia, tumour, crohns disease, intussusception etc.)

Paralytic ileus
