65 yr old woman complaining of a cough and shortness of breath.

What does the radiogrpah show ?

Collapse of the left upper lobe. Mass at the left hilum.

What is the most likely cause ?

A central mass at the left hilum is obstructing the left upper lobe bronchus. This could be a bronchogenic carcinoma.

What further tests would you request ?

CT scan of the thorax and upper abdomen.

Bronchoscopy.
